You Preach what you Practice
This isn’t the saying. The saying is usually “practice what you preach” - at least that’s the saying in the south. Though evidence would most often support that your behavior is a reflection of your practices. What does this mean? It means we can be incredibly intentional about what behaviors we prioritize and our behavior and outcomes will reflect that. OR we can continue to practice behaviors that keep us in exactly the same place - the place we say we would like to grow from.
What are the practices that you prioritize?
The first step is awareness - becoming mindful of the behaviors we consistently engage in, both conscious and unconscious.
The next step is to identify your goal. Where do you want to be this time next year? In 5 years?
Then - work backwards to make a plan. What are the steps it’s going to take to get you to your goal.
If the behaviors you’re prioritizing today aren’t in line with the behaviors that will take you toward your goal - it’s time to change.
Let’s say you want to grow your side hustle into a 6 figure business within the next 5 years. Today - you treat your business as a casual recreational activity, and make about $1k a month.
What are the steps it is going to take for you to reach your goal?
What are the behaviors you need to prioritize today to make your goal a reality?
Take some time to explore any barriers that may prevent you from engaging in these behaviors consistently.
Then pick one behavior. Just one. Do that one over and over again until it’s so second nature that you no longer think about it. Then add your next behavior and repeat.
At the end of the day, what goes in will come out. Your behavior preaches more than your words ever will. Just like anything - we have to practice what we want to produce.
It’s what you do that leads to the changes you want. It’s what you do that people remember.
What’s stopping you?
